I write this knowing that in every season of our lives, we worry. When I look around, people worry about what to do when it is hot or cold. We worry about what will happen in every situation that is unfamiliar and with that worry we so many times speak negatively about the outcome. Worrying was never part of our design. We were made to trust in God.

Now I am the first to confess that I worry about people and many things. What I have realised is that by worrying about anything, I tend to want to take control of everything. I believe that God wants to take care of us, but we need to let go and give Him the opportunity to do it. When we are in control of everything, we will spend all of our time worrying. We want to do it all in our own strength.

When we worry, it places unnecessary stress on our souls. Our bodies start to feel the weight and ultimately, we begin to grow weak in our faith. Our faith is the thing that needs to be focused on God, so that worry won’t kill us. “Killing us softly”.

Worry is a silent killer that we daily invite into our lives. Who would you rather invite to stay with you? Life or death?

Choose to invite God into your life today and give Him the worries of your heart. It is a constant battle and therefor we need to change our mindset to overcome the killer, called WORRY.

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
1 Peter 5:7 NLT

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’  These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.  Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own u Today’s trouble is enough for today.
Matthew 6:31-34 NLT

When we give everything over to God…. this is what will happen….
Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7 NLT

Enjoy a happy worry free life with Jesus…

Books on the shelf

Posted: 25/07/2015 in Uncategorized

As I sit here in the room of my son, there is a bookshelf with different books on it. I see childrens books, books for mothers and fathers, books about babies, business books and Christian books. Among all of them the Christian books are the most. Christian viewpoints in all the types of books that I just mentioned above.

That made me to think. We have so many books that can help us on the subject of theology and spiritual insight, but the biggest problem we have is we don’t want to DO what the books and especially the Bible teaches us. We need to be hearers first and then doers. But we need to be both. We need to understand what the Bible teaches (maybe thats why we buy so many Christian books) so that we can DO what it says. It is the book of life and therefore we need to be active in what we believe.

Psa.139.23-24.nlt Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

This vers was today’s  vers of the day on YouVersion, and it was so clear that with all the books we have on God and spirituality that there is always things that we need God Himself to show us.
Please don’t  misunderstand me, I believe that it is good to read a lot  of books to gain growth in leadership and your spiritual growth. But, we need to listen to God and make sure that we Do what He asks us… And I know it isn’t always the easiest thing to do, but it is for sure the best thing to do.

So the next time you pick up a book from the shelf, make sure that you read it with the Holy Spirit so that He can speak to you through the book and help you to do what you read…

Happy readings

I know I know, men don’t usually watch netball. But I must admit, it is quite a good, intense and very technical sport. My two daughters play the game and my wife is caoching the under 11 team. So I spent a lot of time next to the netball court, working and planning the next thing on the calender. Mostly working out of the boot of my kar (I can sit in the boot).

Looking and observing what goes on in the game, I see kids playing their hearts out and other kids that, well just wanna have fun. This makes me think. How many times do you see people involved in ministry with their whole heart and other people just want to sit around and have fun. But what I see in these netball games is that those that work hard and focus on the task at hand, grow and get better. While those that are there just to have fun, stay at the level they started at.

So to grow in your relationship with God, you need to put in the effort to get beter and closer. Netball is also a team sport. You have to work together to get the ball through the hoop. In our walk with God, we have brothers and sisters that can help us overcome the challenges the enemy throws at us. We need to support and love people around us to be victorious.

Where ever you find yourself, answer the following question, “Do I want to put in the effort to grow?”

Until the next “practice”…..

Well its been a while since I wrote a blog. Tonight as I sit here I think to myself, “Life has changed so much in just a few short months”. Different challenges awaits us everyday and everyday we must be ready to tackle them head on.  So maybe these challenges are here to help us focus on what is important and what is not. What ever challenge is in front of you, it can be overcome by doing one thing…. START.

Start and take the challenges that you face head on by praying about it, and then do what God tells you to do. But start. The Holy Spirit is so amazing that He will never leave you alone in this fight. He will be there every step of the way. We just need to recognise His leading and react not to the challenge, but to His voice. So many times we react to the problem and not to the voice we actually need to follow.

Start does not mean that there will always be action. Sometimes it means that we need to stop. Stop doing what WE want and START doing what pleases God.

There can only be a real START if you start at the beginning. In life there is no starting in the middle. No building was built from the second floor, but it all starts at the FOUNDATION.  Start at the begining and dont wish the time spent there, away. LEARN what God wants to teach you. Start in His presence. Start everything with Him. The Lord and Saviour of your life. Our FOUNDATION.

So this first blog of 2015, STARTS with this challenge…. Start somewhere, start at JESUS feet. (The Foundation)

How many times do we say, “I am so tired, I need more sleep…” While writing this I feel a need for more sleep. I keep on thinking of what I can do to get more rest. But before you get to the point of getting rest, something els happens. Somebody or something needs your attention. And all you can do is, take a deep breath and keep on going.

But there is just one problem. Burnout. If you just keep on keeping on, on your own strength, you will eventually run out of mental or fisical energy. Which will lead to burnout. That is exactly where the devil wants you. Burnout will lead to wipeout if you do not run to the only place where you can be restored and refreshed. Jesus Christ.

Destractions can lead to you not thinking straight. As I sit here in the baby room at church, I listen to the worship, but the kids run around shouting and frustration creeps in, and I find myself fighting to focus on the voice of God. I know God is speaking but the sounds on the outside is so loud, I feel lost. I have to fight and stay on course to find that something, that one change that can launch me to a place where I can find myself again in Christ. I know I am in Christ, I know I am more than a conqueror,  I know the scriptures on all the positive uplifting statements, but I feel as if everything is just going out of control. One day it is all good, the next day everything falls apart. This is how we feel when we are close to burnout.

No one likes being in this place. Our minds can play a big role in our outcome. This is a time where we need to rest and know that God is a good God. The band is singing a song: “In the presence of Jehovah God almighty, Prince of peace. Troubles vanish, hearts are mended, in the presence of the King. In your presence in your Holy Presence the weary can find perfect rest the broken hearted restored. In the presence of the the Lord.”

What a beautiful song for those that needs strength to fight burnout.
Everything is easy to say, but to do something about it, is another thing. We need to take courage and stand up and follow Jesus. We need to speak His word into our minds, so that it will stay in our hearts.

Romans 10:17 ESV
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.(Rom 10:17)

This is probably the longest time I’ve taken to write a blog. This is a few weeks later since I’ve sat in the babyroom listening to the worship. As I read this again, today I feel refreshed. Not close to burnout at all. What made the difference in this past few weeks. Well I can say that my faith is stronger and that I started to focus more on the Word of God. Faith can really boost your life when your faith is in God and when you not only have faith but actually believe what you have faith in. Belief is an action that leads to victory. I must be honest,  it is not easy, but when you push through the feelings and stick with your belief in God. He gave us the promise that He will never leave us nor fail us. Just knowing that brings hope.
Heb 11 says that the just shall live by faith and that we can only please God by our faith

So in this journey I have taken, I can tell you one thing…. God is a good God, even if things look gloomy. He is always GOOD. Take His hand and follow Him where ever He may lead you. Wake up and see that God want only what is best for you. He is GOOD.
Take it from me, it is worth it.

This is my son, Reuben. He is a special boy with a lot of joy in his character. There is seldom a time when you will see him sad or down. When you feel sad or down, just take a look at him and he will make you smile. During our family holiday we were at a restaurant enjoying food and good company.  During that time he took a piece of lemon. Thinking that he will put it down after the first bite, he just went on taking bite after bite. Pulling his face everytime.

The thought came to me a few days later, when I was looking at the photo I have taken. The sourness of life. Most people are sour because they keep on taking the bite of Negativity. When you chew on bad things our first response is to spit it out. But why do we keep on chewing on the negative, when there is nothing nutritional or positive about it.
Paul says to the Philipians that they must chew (think) on everything that is true, worthy of reverence, that is just, good, pure and lovely. [fix your minds on them]. (Phil 4:8)

There is to many people that fill their mouths with negativity and still they don’t understand why their lives are so filled with junk.  To have a sourless life, keep your mouth filled with the WORD of God. Jesus came so that when you are tempted with the sourness of life, you will be able to  stand on the true foundation of life. GOD’S WORD – NAMED JESUS.

For Reuben, my son, to keep his face straight, he had to put the sourness away. He had to Remove the lemon from his mouth. Remove the world from your mouth and fill it with the WORD of God.

So be blessed,
Know Jesus and He will help you to be SOURLESS and enjoy the sweetnees that is JESUS…

Where ever you go you will see people sitting. After a long walk the best thing is to sit. To Rest. And enjoy a breather. Walking around the shopping centre today, I was not looking for anything else but a place to sit. I got to one side of the mall, and nothing. All the seats taken. So I did what any normal man in my shoes would do, I kept on looking for a place to sit. So from one end to the next, I kept looking for that one place I could sit.

When I got around one corner of the mall, there I saw it. My favourite restaurant.  Immediately I went, and there it was, a seat where I could sit.

So the thought came to me. We tend to sit at the place where we feel comfortable. So we are basicly drawn to sit at a place of comfort.
Are we comfortable with Jesus? Are we drawn to a place where we can just sit with Him, knowing He is with us. Spend time with Him to be more comfortable in your relationship with the Creator of Heaven and earth.

I like the idea of sitting with Jesus in His livingroom. A place of comfort, a place of rest, but the best, BEING WITH HIM.

Sitting here I still see people walking in all directions, some with a look on their faces of success, some with a look that screems… I WANT TO SIT!!

So knowing that in some point in life we need to sit. Sit with Jesus, you will find rest not just for your feet… but also for your soul.

Psalms 30:11 NLT
You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy.

Today I feel sadness like I never thought I would feel again. The only other time I felt this kind of sadness was when my granddad past away. Something I never thought I would feel again.
But why so sad. When I really think about it, it is all because of LOVE. Because of love we feel a deep emotion that can only be explained with love.
When you loose somebody to death or you are seperated from someone. That love that you feel, cause you to feel sadness.

In this time of Passover, I can only imagine, how Jesus must have felt on the cross. God turning His face away from Jesus knowing that the sin Jesus took on Himself to set the human race free from everlasting doom, must have been a great sadness that I know I won’t be able to bear. Because of the Fathers love for Jesus, He felt sadness like never before. Jesus knows how we feel when our emosions run wild and everything seems lost. Jesus knows… the Father knows…

This all began because of sin and the destruction it brought. But, because of the RESURRECTION of Jesus, sadness no longer need to rule your life. Because our Savior lives… we can face tomorrow. Because He lives all fear is gone.

John 15:11 NLT
I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!

I want to encourage you, that if you feel sad because of whatever happend in your life, turn to Jesus and His Word for comfort. There are so many people looking for comfort in all the wrong places. Jesus is our JOY and our STRENGTH.

Let the Holy Spirit empower you with joy (Gal 5:22)

I am not saying that we are not aloud to have the emotion of sadness, BUT I do believe that we don’t have to live under the constant banner of sadness. We can have joy in our lives again.

What I have done, is this:
I made a choice to grieve, but that the grieve won’t determent my outcome. In other words, Jesus is my foundation and my JOY! For this is the day that the Lord has made. Remember Jesus KNOWS…

The love

So many times we run to things around us to feel loved and for a while we might feel satisfaction, but is that really love we feel. How many times have I seen girls running to guys just to feel loved and in the process get hurt. For just a while their feelings of exceptance and pleasure felt like love.

I want to let people know that, to find love with other people, they need first to know what real love is.
Jesus said that there is no greater love than to lay down your life for friends. That is what Jesus did. He layed down His life for all humanity so that we can be overcomers through His love. Overcomers. Isn’t that a great hope for now and the future?

When we look for love, we need to start with Jesus. In Him and through Him we will know what it is to love.

What does it mean to lay down your life?
1. It means that you put other people first.
2. Having compasion for people out side your comfort zone.
3. It means that you have only one WILL to please. Not yours, but Gods’.

I think that when we seek love and we can remember this statement of Jesus, we will live with a love that will reach people and touch them in such a way that they wil want to know JESUS and His love.

That must be our main focus when looking for love… to HONOUR JESUS.

Girls love to play dress up. And when I look at my daughters, this statement is so true. You will see them in this outfit, in the next 10 min you will see them in a different outfit. Always a dress and always with an attitude of your typical model on a runway.

They will watch a movie and then they will want to model the movie in their room with all the glitz and glamour. This made me think when I read the following statement.:

Our models have a great influence in the way we think, speak, do things and we are motivated to get to their standard of lifestyle.

The dictionary describes the word MODELLING as follows:

1. a standard or example for imitation or comparison.  2. a representation, generally in miniature, to show the construction or appearance of something.  3. an image in clay, wax, or the like, to be reproduced in more durable material.  4. a person or thing that serves as a subject for an artist, sculptor, writer, etc.  5. a person whose profession is posing for artists or photographers.

But what does the Word of God say on this topic?

Eph 5:1  Therefore be imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father]. Quotation-Richard-G-Scott-life-good-change-best-Meetville-Quotes-115092

I see that there is someone we can mimic. The greatest MODEL of all time. 2000 years ago the King of kings made history by dying for His creation. There is no greater gift than this than to lay down your own life for a friend. WHAT A MODEL. Jesus Christ became the best example that we could ever ask for. He is compassionate, loving, obedient and He has a relationship with the Father.

There is no one better to follow and model than Jesus. You can know with certainty, that when you model Jesus, you will have a blessed life. But then you also will have the same persecution as He did.

When we plant Rose seed, we expect a Rose to come up. We expect beauty and fragrance. I have never seen a Rose come up with the thorns as the focus point. The Flower is the focus, that is what everybody wants. BUT why is it that we look at life and only see the thorns. We are so busy with the thorns that we are constantly in pain and we never see the end of the tunnel. IT IS TIME THAT WE LEAVE THE THORNS AND SMELL THE FRAGRANCE AND SEE THE BEAUTY THAT LIFE BRINGS OUR WAY. Yes I know the thorns are there, but if your focus is on the beauty and the fragrance, you simply break off the thorns and then you can share that beautiful life God has given you.

FOCUS on Jesus and you will have a great life, even when the storm is there.

Tit 2:7-8
7 Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, 8 and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.
